Brian Westbrook will be out for the rest of the season.

As a result of the sprain on his right foot, he will miss the rest of the 2005 season. However, he does not need surgery. Westbrook will be placed on Injured Reserve. It has been said that his injury will require six to nine weeks of rehab. Westbrook has become the 12th Eagle - and 4th Pro Bowl player from a year ago - to go on Injured Reserve in 2005.

The Eagles have lost their chance to make the playoffs. The team dropped to 5-8 after an overtime loss at home to the New York Giants. The best they could finish at this point is 8-8. This marks the first time the Eagles have not made the playoffs in 5 years. In addition, the team went 0-5 against NFC East teams, one year after going 6-0 in the division.

Eagles safety Brian Dawkins stated, "This week the effort was good and -- blah, blah, blah -- we lost the game. And that's not good enough. We need to win. It's about wins and losses -- that's the bottom line."

These words, coming from defensive coordinator Jim Johnson, reflect the attitude of the Eagles coaches and players. Unlike the majority of fans who have given up on their beloved team, the Eagles coaches and players wouldn't even consider such a thing. Instead, these individuals want to put the past behind them and move on to the next game. They continue to insist all is not lost.

Quarterback Mike McMahon has been picked by Coach Reid to start the game vs. the Giants this Sunday, December 11th. The position of quarterback was up in debate as a result of Reid benching McMahon late in the first half of the Eagles 42-0 loss to the Seahawks. Unfortunately, Koy Detmer did not play as well as Reid had hoped when he was put in to replace McMahon. Each quarterback, McMahon and Detmer, completed less than 50 percent of his passes and each was intercepted twice.

Mike McMahon on the current situation... "He just told me to be ready to come out swinging again. The main thing we've got to do is work hard and make sure it doesn't happen again, don't make the same mistakes again."

Running back Brian Westbrook will miss the rest of the season with a Lis Franc sprain of his right foot. The injury occurred in the Eagles Monday night loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Coach Andy Reid has decided to rotate the running backs and replace Westbrook with Lamar Gordon, Reno Mahe, and Ryan Moats.

When Mahe was asked if this was an opportunity he responded, "It is a responsibility. This is why you've been kept around for so long. We've got to step up and pick up the load and do everything we can to help this team win these next games."

It was the Eagles worst loss since the team's 38-0 blowout by Seattle in 1998 - this time the same opponent, only the Eagles lost 42-0. It was the team's first time being shut out since 2003 when the Tampa Bay Bucs beat them 17-0. This loss all but eliminates the Eagles from the playoffs. The team now has a record of 5-7 and gears up to face the New York Giants this Sunday, December 11th. The Eagles finally got it done - put a W in the record books!!

The Eagles were able to end their four-game losing streak with a 19-14 win over the Green Bay Packers...THEY'RE NOT DEAD YET! The Eagles played the game with a lineup filled with rookies, first year starters, and backups. Reflecting back on the win Brian Dawkins stated, "We were able to finish a game, and that's very important, to get back on the winning side of things." McNabb & Sheppard out for rest of the season.

Quarterback Donovan McNabb has decided to have surgery for his sports hernia and is likely to miss the rest of the season. Cornerback Lito Sheppard, who suffered a high ankle sprain in Sunday's loss to the NY Giants, also appears to be out for the rest of the season as his injury requires surgery. Sunday's game against the New York Giants left the Philadelphia Eagles with a record of 4-6. Considering the circumstances...especially the fact the Eagles were playing behind back-up QB Mike McMahon, the Eagles did not play all that bad. They say a picture is worth 1,000 words...

Looking at the facial expression of QB Donovan McNabb you could rightly assume the feelings of each and every Eagles fan. The Eagles...once again...lost to the Dallas Cowboys on Monday, November 14, 2005. In a game that was considered by many a "must win" the team just couldn't get it accomplished. The unfortunate fact is that the Eagles should have won this game. They looked to be in a secure position with a 20-7 lead in the fourth quarter. But as I stated before, the game isn't over....'til it's over. Dallas rallied back with a quick touchdown, and then an interception for a touchdown to end the game 21-20. The Eagles now look to face the New York Giants - and might be without McNabb as a result of further injury.

The 49 points were the most they've allowed since Andy Reid became coach in 1999. Denver completely dominated the Eagles and left them with a 3rd place standing in the NFC East as a result of their now 4-3 record. Asked if the ongoing problems are fixable, Jeremiah Trotter states, "They better be...or else we're in big trouble."

Coach Reid attributes the problems to a "coach-player issue" as opposed to an "offtense-defense issue." Although he did not have answers for the media as to why his team is struggling so much, he assured them that the team and organization as a whole will correct the problems. The Eagles are now pushed into a corner. This Sunday's game against Washington will be very telling. The Eagles cannot afford to display another sub-par performance. Instead they need to use the adversity to their advantage and get pumped up - not only get pumped up, but produce the necessary and desired results. I still have faith...

Middle linebacker Jeremiah Trotter has been named the NFC's Defensive Player of the Week for his outstanding play against the Chargers, which included 11 total tackles, 2 passes defensed, 3 quarterback hurries, a sack, a forced fumble and an interception.
It was the first time in Trotter's career that he recorded a full sack and an interception in the same game.
Eagles announced Tuesday they have claimed placekicker Jose Cortez off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys. The team released placekicker Todd France. For more on the story visit here.

The game isn't over...'til it's over. Instead of falling into last place in the NFC East, the Eagles now with a record of 4-2, are locked in a three-way tie for first with the New York Giants and Washington. The Eagles, with little more than three minutes left in the 4th quarter of last Sunday's game looked as if they were on the road to defeat. However, a few big plays turned the whole situation around. As Brian Dawkins explains, "It took a couple of big-time plays from a couple of big-time players to pull this game out." The big-time plays were certainly not given by the offense, which has recently been struggling. Instead, defense and special teams were the drive behind the Eagles victory.

Quintin Mikell started it off with a blocked field goal that allowed Matt Ware to return it 60-yards for the go-ahead touchdown. Then Sheldon Brown capped off the turnaround of events when he stripped the ball from a San Diego reciever when the Chargers were on a mission to either tie or win the game.

Words from coach Andy Reid: "This shows its not always going to be pretty. But if you keep battling, you're going to give yourself a chance."

FAILURE CAN LEAD TO PERFECTION...at least we hope so for the Eagle's sake. Speaking of their latest defeat given by the Dallas Cowboys, QB Donovan McNabb explains, "This is no different than playing Pittsburgh last year, and a couple of games from the previous year. Not everything is going to be perfect." This is obvious...but this situation cannot be taken lightly if the team wants to remain in contention for the Super Bowl. However, speaking of the road to the Super Bowl, since 2000 the Eagles have the best record in the NFL, 17-3, in games following defeat. Although history is on their side, the Eagles must continue to stay focused and not take anything for granted. Linebacker Jeremiah Trotter sums up the situation best, "We know what kind of team we have, and we know we can turn this around. At the same time, we have to realize that it's not just going to happen because it's happened before. This is a new season and we have to prove ourselves all over again." In that case...all we can do is be patient and let the professionals show what they're made of...get 'em boys!

Was that really the Eagles playing?!?! Yes...unfortunately...it was. The team now enters the bye week with a 3-2 record after a devastating 33-10 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Obviously this doesn't sound like the best situation to be in...but no need to panic. This is familiar territory for the Eagles and their fans.

The Eagles need to use this bye week to their advantage:

Players need to rest and re-focus on their goal for this season. The season isn't over 'til it's over. They still have plenty of time to improve and be successful.
The coaching staff, especially the defensive coaching staff, need to be very critical of the past games. The past two games they have given up 31 points and 33 points respectively. In addition, the offensive coaching staff needs to look more into the fact that the Eagles have scored only 14 total points in the first quarter of five games.

Lastly, for all your angry fans out there...BREATHE. This is a 16-week season and no team is perfect. Just BELIEVE... GO BIRDS!!!

No one said it would be easy...week four's game against the Kansas City Chiefs was a battle...and the Philadelphia Eagles did not let up. With the injury list rapidly increasing in size, the Eagles took to the field and were quickly dominated by the Chiefs. However, the "never say die" attitude of the Eagles led them to rally back and refuse to let the game slip away. The game ended with the Eagles on top 37-31...but with even more injuries. Just to name a few, free safety Brian Dawkins will be undergoing an MRI on an ankle sprain he suffered and Paul Grasmanis tore his Achilles tendon and will be out for the remainder of the season. Here's a look at some of the quotes from after the game:

QB Donovan McNabb:

on playing with his injury: "Nothing is easy in this game, especially when your body is in a position where you feel like you can't do what you're used to doing."
on his team: "I'm willing to do whatever it takes to help this team win games: knowing when to get the ball out in time and being able to put the guys in great positions to be successful."

CB Sheldon Brown:

on his interception return for a TD: "It goes back to the time of playing little league football in middle school and high school. You just work hard week in and week out. You prepare during the week, studying film and you recognize something and everything pays off."

TE L.J. Smith:

on the mood in the locker room at halftime: "Midway through the second quarter we needed a play and Sheldon made it. We came in at halftime, the guys were fired up because we knew we were a better team than the way we were playing. I think everybody individually took it upon ourselves to go out there and make plays."

No good news for Eagle's quarterback Donovan McNabb as he has recently found out that his "strained abdomen" is actually a sports hernia. However, the Eagles still expect McNabb to start this Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs and throughout the rest of the season...dependnig on how painful the injury becomes. The Eagle's athletic trainer Rick Burkholder believes that this injury will not become better with rest and therefore McNabb will most likely have to go through surgery once the season has ended. In the meantime, McNabb will battle through the games one at a time and show his teammates, coaches, and fans what it takes to be a truly passionate football player.

Injuries...injuries...and more injuries. The Eagles situation has only gotten worse after their 23-20 win over the Oakland Raiders this past Sunday, September 25th. Starting Pro Bowl placekicker, David Akers, has a slight tear of his right hamstring and is scheduled to miss at least one game. This injury came after attempting two kickoffs to start the game as a result of penalties - and continuing to kick until sealing the deal for the Eagles victory with the winning field goal. After each kick Akers went down, grimacing in pain. Knowing that Akers is out at least a week, head coach Andy Reid has activated Todd France from the practice squad. In addition to Akers, Donovan McNabb is suffering from various problems including a groin strain, bruised chest, and abdominal strain. Unfortunately, the Eagles don't have time to let Donovan sit and heal and therefore there is little doubt that he will be playing in next Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Other players that have recently succumb to pain and injury include DT Darwin Walker, suffering from a deep thigh contusion, and Terrell Owens also suffering from a strained abdominal muscle.

So they're even...1-1. After the second week of regular season play, the Philadelphia Eagles find themselves with both a loss and a win in the record books. The loss came in their Monday Night Football season-opener against the Atlanta Falcons. McNabb turned the ball over three times, in addition to being sacked twice...not the most notable game performance. Also, Terrell Owens broke his streak of seven consecutive touchdown receptions by not being able to connect with quarterback McNabb. Another surprise, kicker David Akers missed two field goals. The final score of the game was 14-10.
Moving on to the better news...the Eagles made up for the loss in their recent game against the San Francisco 49ers. In this game, quarterback Donovan McNabb threw for a total of four touchdowns in just the first half of the game. Terrell Owens was able to become the 22nd player in NFL history to go over the 10,000-yard career recieving mark with a 42-yard touchdown catch. In addition, TO caught two more touchdowns in the first half of the game. L.J. Smith displayed a great performance while recording two career-high stats: he led all recievers with 9 receptions and also had 119 receiving yards. Smith also had a touchdown in the game. The final score of that game was 42-3...a blowout by the Eagles.

"Finally, it's back to football..." Jeremiah Trotter exclaims as he prepares for the 9:00pm kickoff tonight of the Eagles season against the Atlanta Falcons (televised nationally on ABC). This is not just any game, instead, this game poses as a rematch of last year's NFC championship game between these two teams. Last year's game ended up in the Eagles favor...beating the Falcons 27-10. Fans, veterans, and rookies alike are all ready and excited for the beginning of, hopefully, a successful football season. This game is extra special for rookie players such as running back Ryan Moats and wide receiver Reggie Brown, as tonight is their NFL debut. In addition, this will be the first time Ike Reese will be playing in a Falcons uniform, opposite his former Philadelphia teammates. The stage is set...complete with bitter feelings of last year's loss, excitement for revenge, and motivation for both teams to advance to this year's Superbowl...only time will tell how this game ends up...GO EAGLES!!

ONE team. ONE city. ONE dream. The Philadelphia Eagles will start this year's journey to the Superbowl on September 12, 2005. On the Monday Night Football stage, the team will display all the guts and glory that go along with being arguably one of the best in the NFL. The Eagles, led by quarterback Donovan McNabb, will match up against the Atlanta Falcons, led by quarterback Michael Vick, in the Georgia Dome. Personally, I have become very excited for the start of the season now that all the college football games have begun. Unfortunately, one of my favorite players, Hugh Douglas, won't be playing as a result of recently being waived from the team. Speaking of being released, Andy Hall, former University of Delaware quarterback, is also gone from the Eagles roster.
